2022 is over; 2023 is here!

Updated: May 25, 2023

You made it! It’s the beginning of a new year and the perfect time to reflect on all the good times from 2022. As cliche as it sounds, the new year is symbolic to many of the start of a new chapter where adventure awaits.

Welcome to a new world and a new journey where a lot of people in the spirit of “new year, new you” begin breaking old patterns and creating new routines and habits. Some new year resolutions include visiting new places, traveling, volunteering or embarking on a diet. Any of these goals might seem overwhelming as habits take time to form making it harder to stick to new goals. Sudden changes add pressure and stress, additional factors that can make a resolution feel unattainable.

We believe that mental wellbeing goes hand in hand with physical health. As always there's a few keys to establishing and keeping healthy habits for 2023. If you've never prioritized your mental wellbeing there is no better time to start then now.

Start by choosing at least one or two of the items below as part of your new year mental wellbeing goals, to start reaping the residual benefits for the year 2023 and beyond.

Move your body to feel good mentally - Exercise has very practical and necessary benefits that are not just about how you can look. Physical movement has been proven to reduce mental stress in addition to improved overall health so get moving. Start by taking the stairs and walking.

Declutter your space, clear your mind - Who says that decluttering has to wait for the annual spring clean. Cluttered spaces can reflect your state of mind especially if you feel stressed, so take it one step at a time and start clearing out your space. This includes your car!

Change your self-talk - You are with yourself 24/7 and if you find yourself thinking or talking negatively about yourself, choose to counteract that self-talk with kindness and positive affirmations. You deserve to be treated with kindness, even by yourself.

Start journaling - The simple act of writing down how you’re truly feeling or what you truly want in the privacy of your journal can do wonders for relieving anxiety and stress because sometimes you need to just vent with no judgment. Start with writing down your new year’s resolutions and journal about your progress.

Meditate. - There is so much to be said about the benefits of meditation, but the most important is that it is dedicated time alone in stillness to slow down, breathe, and relax your mind. You can Google meditation and you will find meditation apps, Youtube videos, and more to help you get started.

Don’t hesitate to ask for help and seek out support in achieving your goals whether that means sharing your resolutions with your friends and family to hold you accountable or reaching out to us. Maybe this is the year you schedule a session to try counseling and work with our psychotherapists to create a plan to attain your 2023 goals. We’re looking forward to a great year and helping you to learn more about yourself for a better year than the last!
